Raking Leafs

Mixing metaphors and casting cliches about hockey and the Maple Leafs for the ether's pleasure since MCMLXVII.

Pens Pummel Leafs

Since no one seems to have the guts to say it today, I will. Darcy Tucker had his ass handed to him on a silver platter by a player with a reputation for not being able to fight. Jarkko Ruutu landed at least 10 high impact punches to the side of Tucker's face. The Pittsburgh area broadcast put up boxing-style punches thrown and landed stats, forgivingly omitting the percentages for each combatant as Tucker wouldn't have recieved a passing grade.

Good thing he's signed until April 2011.

If you aren't disgusted with this team, then I'll give you a few more weeks because I've already reached the point of needing change. Deep, meaningful, course-correcting, fundamental organizational change.

If they can't win, and they can't even fight, what's the point of watching?

Good to see Ruutu finally fights once he's 3 inches taller and 22 pounds heavier than his opponent.

Tucker's never been a good fighter and usually loses but he's always skated hard, hit, fought, and pumped up his team...until this year. I am guessing he's still hurt because I would hate to think he's just gone soft.

PPP, you're tale of the tape is accurate, but I'm tired of making excuses. Besides, Tucker picked the fight and was throwing punches early, so he took his chance and failed.

I wouldn't call him soft, just less full of piss and vinegar...and stamina and energy.

While I sat and watched Tucker choose to recieve last night, it struck me that each year JFJ has kept the wrong guy: Belfour, McCabe and now Tucker. I wonder if JFJ will even get the chance to blow it a fourth time...

Oh, it's no excuse. Tucker chose the fight and ran out of whatever it was he used to have.

MF37 - Who's left to keep? Everyone's already signed. I guess that's the fourth thing he kept: the Leafs.

Or maybe he won't trade Sundin and then next year Mats will have the worst year ever.

I'm interested in seeing if Cherry has any comment on this on coach's corner this week.

Keep those excuses comin', don! And don't forget to thank the baby jesus!

From a Western perspective, Im stunned that JFJ has lasted this long.

I'm more concerned about the Bell fight, I mean, has he won one yet?

Whatever the reason, Tucker has been brutal.

It was a great fight, Tucker hardly got his ass handed to him. Tucker is all heart and always plays with courage, its obvious he's hurt this year.

Can you say "Fight of the Year" Great punches thrown by both players. Bomb after bomb landed on each others head. Ruutu gets my vote for landed more punches. I watched this one on the TV last night. Tucker was bleeding and would not go to the dressing room to get it fixed up.
